The Fantasy Wizard World is imagined by JK Rowling and has been designed for every age group. The adventure of Harry Potter is a mystery everybody (not only children) dreams of living but is lived by certain people and that too in imagination only.

Harry Potter has just turned 11 and what he may not be expecting is a giant Fellow who goes by the name of Hagrid, right outside the door of the house! ehm...an isolated house that exists on an isolated island to isolate Harry from the Wizarding World. Hogwards is the School of Wizardry and Witchcraft for special children who have inborn abilities and powers of a wizard. Though Harry's Uncle and Aunt (cuz he is an orphan) try to deprive him off the chance to go to Hogwards because according to them it is utter nonsense but letters from Hogwards had no chance of stopping.

Harry is unable to process whatever is happening in such short notice but is certainly determined to hence he goes with Hagrid to shop the course that he will need for Hogwards, As he starts to discover the strange things in the muggle world, he also finds out that he is as famous as a celebrity can get in the World of Wizards. This is where all things couldn't get any stranger in the life of Harry Potter.

The book is amazing for all ages. I read it at the age of 19 and couldn't have enjoyed it anymore than I did. This is a book I would recommend to every specie on the planet Earth.

The Tipping Point - 2000

Rating: 4.5/5
Written By Malcolm Gladwell

The tipping point is an ingenious psychological book that defines the TIPPING point or the boiling point of something that is inexplicable but it changes the direction of a wave and suddenly a mass of people get influenced.

The Tipping point focuses and stresses on the point that TIPS and just like that the average becomes something abnormal. What the case studies present in the book like that of teenage smoking or teaching children from TV Shows are some of things very amazing about the book. Gladwell shares his research and the solutions also. So the point remains that how does little things suddenly become so significant.
Gladwell explains this through the certain kinds of people in our society that connect us or influence us so much so that the insignificant event gathers a mass of people within itself.

Overall, the book is simply a teacher and a mentor to change how we deal with social problems. The effective solutions to our mainstream problems are explained in this book. Those who love psychology and are interested in something that literally changes people's behaviors over something should read this book.

Now You See Me - 2013

NOW YOU SEE ME

Rating: 8/10
Notable Actors: Jesse Eisenberg and Mark Ruffalo
Director: Louis Leterrier

The magicians have yet again rose to heights under the heading of Now You See Me. The American thriller is quite an interesting one based on the magician's tricks and how they justify their tricks through simple illusion which once was incomprehensible.

Four Stage magicians Danny Atlas, Merritt Mckinney, Henley Reeves and Jack Wilderare given a tarot card that lead them to the same New York City empty apartment, where they find information from an unknown benefactor.
The magicians are ordinary no more and they perform certain magic tricks that quickly grasp the people's attentions towards them. The trick due to which the FBI and Interpol try to chase and get a hold on them, is that they pull off a bank heist. They steal money from a vault in Paris and 'rain' that money on their audience.

The movie is good but it lacks a strong motive and a back ground. The tricks were appealing but somethings seemed very fictitious opposed to the general idea of this movie. Acting is good enough and ending wasn't so bad hence the rating is justified. It should be watched by those who want a different kind of thriller having some taste of MAGIC.

The Amazing Spiderman - 2012

THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN
Rating: 7.5/10
Notable Actors: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone
Director: Marc Webb

The Amaizing spiderman is the recent series of this superhero since the one of Tobey Maguire. The movie is a little more realistic version and adaptation of the comic books. Amazing Spiderman was able to handle the story well with some change in events compared to the former.

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) has gained super human powers (or spidey powers) when bitten by a genetically mutated spider. The curiosity of Peter Parker for exploiting his powers is the part where he (realistically) tries to take full advantage of his newly found capabilities (such as the web thrower).
Peter Parker wants to investigate his parents deaths and that's how his acquaintance with Dr. Curt Connors goes up a notch.

The Amazing Spiderman is a good movie but it needs more crisp. The storyline is same old one but as I have mentioned the change in events were interesting. The series can do much better especially on the depth of the superhero cuz to attain great heights the crew has to make great efforts.

Sherlock Holmes - Books

Sherlock Holmes Portrait Paget.jpg SHERLOCK HOLMES

Rating: 4.8/5
Written By: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sherlock Holmes, the prerequisite inspiration for every 'consulting' detective in the whole wide world whether real or fictitious is a character worth reading. Adventures of Sherlock Holmes are thrill containing cases by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle that not only changed the perspective on how to approach a certain case scenario but the message that little things are what matter the most yet mean the least. The complete set of books comprise of 4 novels and 56 short stories of different contexts but having a common purpose.

Mr.Holmes is a keen fellow residing in medieval London. Though London is home to highly sophisticated crimes but the most astonishing figure is Sherlock Holmes himself who has a unique set of skills to tackle whatever problem is at hand, may it demand a disguise or a more physical approach such as overwhelming the guilty. Sherlock Holmes with his accomplice who happens to be a doctor Mr.Watson are enough to solve any case however complex. The theories must be able to grasp all the facts, may it be an improbable one is what he believes.

Every single case is worth reading, every single adventure and moment are worth the time of this great figure. The readers should at least read the short stories to understand the man's nature towards the art of crime and the whole science of deduction.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians - Book Series 2005-09

Image result for Percy Jackson & the OlympiansPERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS

Rating: 3.3/5
Author: Rick Riordan

The mythological fiction is a ride for 12-15 year olds but as it gets a little older (as in my case) then this stuff gets boring. But still, in this review I won't let my personal feelings intervene in between the review and Percy.

The greek mythology kicks off with Percy Jackson the male protagonist who is trapped somewhere between the War of the bad guys (Kronos) and good guys (all the greek gods). Percy discovers that he is a demigod and that's when he feels threatened that 'maybe' some external power is trying to kill him.
Percy has dyslexia and his sweet teens are not so good with him having only one friend Grover who is not so 'human' himself. Percy has a very painful experience in the wretched school but this all changes when Camp Half Blood is introduced to him. The story proceeds nicely in favor of Percy and many secrets are told related to these fictional characters. The last part of this series is most interesting because of the way this story unfolds.

My favorite part about this book is the distinction it has created to other similar books through its merging the fictional characters with the real world stuff. Moving statues and the top floor of the Empire State building etc. The book is very good for the childhood fantasies but NOT AT ALL for ADULTS.

Inglorious Basterds - 2009

INGLORIOUS BASTERDS

Rating: 8.6/10
Notable Star: Brad Pitt
Director: Quentin Tarantino

Adventure of Jewish era with a little twist in events has been revealed under the heading of Inglorious Basterds. The alternate history is represented in a mixed fashion where one really ought to think whether the nazi's ironically, hated Jews or one of  'em who loved a Jew at the same time was an idiot.

The Plot is set in Hitler dominated France during World War II. Jews were hunted like deers and so the the tale concerns a group of Jewish men who are US soldiers and plan to take down the leader....
On another note, a Jewish girl (Melanie Laurent) had escaped the wrath of a Jew huntsman in her teenage and grew up loathing Nazi and plotting to take down the leader....
COINCIDENCE?
The Cinema was the medium through which both of the parties planned on avenging the blood thirsty wolf.

The Movie throughout was interesting. Though it was a sad narrative but the writer surely wanted to spice things up and he did with the 'fun' part. The acting is superb as expected from a Oscar winning film and the story was good as well. The alternate history part appealed more to me personally cuz the same old Jewish oppression was too depressing to watch again and again under different names. Overall the movie was fun to watch and is a must watch for everybody.

Fight Club - 1999

FIGHT CLUB

Rating: 9/10
Notable Stars: Brad Pitt and Edward Norton
Director: David Fincher

How would one describe a Mind boggling adventure?
Through Fight Club would be the answer. Edward Norton may look like an innocent angel but a psychological game can stir and turn many events. The Brad Pitt starring thriller is truly a Fight Club.

Edward Norton is a person who is hunted down by a boring office life and by the way 'insomnia'. He looks to change his life, to do something that will bring out the dead (interesting life). He meets Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) one fine day and that's when the required change strikes. Tyler Durden is a soap maker by profession who is intrigued by Edward Norton's life and that's when their friendship turns to something more, something related to Fight.
The former and latter from their art of fight similarly open a Fight Club. The Fight Club's sole purpose was soon to be ignored when the new members take the things to a whole other level.

Fight Club shows the significance of how the thoughts of  single person can change the perspective of a throng of people. The little things matter most and simply can make all the difference, the idea of fight was subsequently transformed into something that not even the protagonist had expected. The acting throughout is superb and the director has done fairly good job to manage all the scenes. The script was awesome for which an oscar won't have been too bad.
                                                                       Well this Scene takes all

8.3/10

The third installment of the series, some part of Jurassic Park III is based on Michael Crichton's novel. Years after the incident at Isla Nublar Ben Hildebrand (Mark Harelik) and Eric Kirby (Trevor Morgan), a 12 year old boy, go paragliding along the shores of Isla Sorna when a mysterious creature attacks the boat and kills the crew, to survive the crash Ben detaches the line and both get drifted off to the island. Eric is the son of Paul Kirby (William H. Macy) and Amanda Kirby (Téa Leoni) who are a divorced couple, both the parents unite in order to get their son back and offer Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), who now is a famous figure after his Jurassic Park experience, to fund his research in return for a aerial tour of Isla Sorna. Alan accepts the offer, not knowing of the Kirbys true intentions, and flies with them along with his assistant Billy Brennan (Alessandro Nivola). Upon reaching the island Alan finds out the true intentions of the Kirbys and tries to stop them from landing but gets knocked out by a person, when he wakes later he finds out that they have touched down and persuades everyone to get back inside but until then they have already attracted a deadly Spinosaurus (A big and ferocious dino with a fin) who attacks them and destroys the airplane, and this adventurous tour turns into a desperate struggle for survival and only time can tell the dangers that wait ahead of them.
An excellent movie that will keep you glued and not bore you for a second.
A great job by the Director as all the events in the movie were very well set and the dinosaurs were very life like.
Macy and Leoni gave a convincing performance whereas slacked at times.
Neill like always at his best and did a great job with his role.
My Favorite scene of the Movie is when the Spinosaurus and the T-Rex get engaged in a deadly fight.

Da Vinci's Demons - TV Series 2013-2015

Title: Da Vinci's Demons
Rating: 7.5/10
No.of Seasons: 2
Status: Complete

Set during the age of the famous Leonardo Da Vinci, This show is a heavily fantasised version of the events that took place during his time and how he influenced them.
Leonardo Da Vinci (Tom Riley) a genius with dreams of greatness gets involved in plots he has no business being in. Due to him being in service to the house of Medici and his indispensable nature, He is often the target of plots and conspiracies mainly forged by the impostor, Pope Sixtus (James Faulkner) and his subordinate Girolamo Riario (Blake Ritson).
Explaining too much about this show will give away important details,
Perhaps the best thing about this Series is the acting of Blake Ritson as he plays a completely icy cold blooded killer in the form of Count Riario. Not even the acting of the main protagonist compares to the extremely professional acting done by the former. Also the Sherlock-Moriarty type relationship between Leonardo and Riario is enough to send shivers down one's spine.
Some scenes among many others, Deserve the praise of the masses.
With so much conspiracy to frighten a Borgia, This show is truly a must watch for those who are fans of medieval themed shows like Game of Thrones.

Red Tails - Movie 2012

Title: Red Tails
Rating: 6.5/10
Director: George Lucas, Anthony Hemingway

Set in the most bloody era of all time, Red Tails tells the story of a squadron of African-American fighter pilots in world war 2. Faced with prejudice and racism these pilots struggle to do their best for a country that does not give them their rights.
This squadron also known as The Tuskegee Airmen consists of Captain Martin Julian (Nate Parker), Lieutenant Joe Little (David Oyelowo), Lieutenant Ray Gannon (Tristan Mack Wilds), Lieutenant Andrew Salem (Ne-Yo), Lieutenant Samuel George (Elijah Kelly), Who all have to perform their missions with old out of date aircraft.
This is a very special and very beautifully made movie, The special effects of which were spectacular to behold. Also this movie conveys a very important message that adversity always makes people stronger rather than destroying them and that the amount of courage or capabilities of a person is not measured by mundane things like skin colour or ethnicity.
In short this movie is truly worth watching and will not fail to excite you. However a few moments that cannot be mentioned without spoiling the movie for those who have not watched it yet were cliched and fantasized.
A must watch for fans of aerial warfare, Since that is the best thing about this film.

The Pianist - 2002

THE PIANIST
Rating: 8.5/10
Director: Roman Polanski

Historical/Drama is the emotions striking in the very depth of heart. The Jewish history and sufferings are displayed with every detail possible. The wishes of the Best Director had been made possible by the Best Actor in leading role of the year.
Wladyslaw Spizlman is the Jew who survived every possible calamity and his biography is made picturesque by the likes of Adrien Brody.
Wladyslaw Spizlman was a talented Pianist in Nazi Occupied Poland. At the beginning of World War II, the Hitler regime sought the lives of Jews like bloodthirsty animals and the point is conveyed with precision.
The musician's family and himself were the victims of this plan that Nazi sought. The Warsaw ghetto faced destruction and the pianist had to bear the reality due to which his survival was hindered in every possible manner. Soon the 'inevitable' happens and when things couldn't get any worse, the pianist's heart was literally chewed away until the very last.
Acting is absolutely amazing in this feature of the Jewish Past. Though history doesn't contain something new but the Director and Actors have broke the records. The graphics and effects were stunning. Though the plot has nothing special but the other characteristics are what make this movie worth a while.

The Lost World : Jurassic Park - Movie 1997

The Lost World : Jurassic Park
By Steven Spielberg
7.5/10

The second installment of Jurassic Park, The Lost World is once again based on Michael Crichton's novel. Four years after the incident on Isla Nublar, a family happens to be on a nearby island, Isla Sorna, on a vacation when their young daughter is attacked by a horde of dinosaurs. She survives the attack and her parents sue InGen back home. Jon Hammond (Richard Attenborough) then meets Mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Golblum) and explains to him that Isla Sorna was the former location used by InGen to clone dinosaurs but after it was destroyed by a hurricane the whole setup was moved to Isla Nublar. InGen now led by Peter Ludlow (Arliss Howard) wants to capture a dino of their own and Hammond wants to stop them by sending a team including Ian to gather support against human interference. Ian at first reluctant but then accepts as his girlfriend, Dr. Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore), is also at the site. Ian upon reaching Isla Sorna discovers the dangers and the film making turns into a desperate survival, on the other hand Peter and his hunters struggle to capture a baby T-Rex. Instead they capture a life size grown up T-Rex and ship him to San Diego where he gets loose and goes on a wild rampage across the city.
The overall Movie was quite average as Spielberg couldn't bring out the best of himself and the direction slacked throughout.
Goldblum and Moore gave a convincing performance but somwhere there was something lacking in the acting.
My favorite part of the Movie is when the T-Rex gives a wild shriek in the city after wreaking havoc.

The Help - Movie 2011

Title: The Help
Rating: 9/10
Director: Tate Taylor

Based on the book of the same name by author Kathryn Stockett. Set in the 60's, The Help tells the story of Skeeter Phelan (Emma Stone) a university graduate who returns home after graduating to find out that her mother has fired her childhood nanny. After discovering the attitude of the people near her towards the coloured people who work for them, Skeeter resolves to stop this ignorance by publishing a book about the different experiences of the coloured housekeepers.
Foremost in helping her in achieving this dream is Aibileen (Viola Davis) who is a housekeeper to Hilly (Bryce Dallas Howard) a white socialist whose racist views know no bounds. As time passes Aibileen also convinces her friend Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer) to narrate her stories for the book too. As time passes more and more people start coming to Skeeter to narrate their stories.
The Help is one of those movies that becomes imprinted in your mind after you finish watching it. With light comedy and some spectacular scenes The Help is truly a sweet movie.
Perhaps the best thing about this movie is the acting of Octavia Spencer, Who manages to perform in the same comedic and ironic way that is expected of her. Her potrayal of Minny Jackson is both light hearted and at times serious.
The Help taught me that everyone is special and that the way a person looks does not determine their identity or personality.
Even 6 years after its release The Help remains a must watch.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
ON STRANGER TIDES
Rating: 8/10
Director: Rob Marshal

Phew! The Last in the series (not for long) is again a surprising tale of events as Disney is full of surprises for its fans. The introduction of new characters was the best part in this portion of the series as Black Beard ain't no joking around.

Fountain of Youth is the centerpiece of this plot and as usual Captain Jack Sparrow and Mr. Barbosa are on a hunt to this unique establishment but there is the addition of Black Beard as well.
Everybody has their own intentions to use the Fountain of youth. Gibbs destroys the map to the Fountain, hence Barbosa is forced to take him with himself. Black Beard ( Lost in fear due to the prophecy of him being killed by a one legged man) wants to use fountain of youth to survive.
The events are especially extraordinary as the prerequisites for the Fountain of Youth to work are perilous. The Chalices, Mermaids Tears and a sacrifice of a soul are the essence of this adventure. None other than Jack Sparrow has the charm to make this journey a memorable one even when the circumstances are this severe.

The box office of a $ billion is no joke and the feat is achieved second time in this series. The reason behind is the acting and Visual Effects. The stunning Visual Effects were a  joint work of 10 companies which made the graphics worth watching. The Shooting took place in different American cities and sometimes even in another country for the realistic look and distinct features which couldn't have made this movie beautiful otherwise.Though the movie didn't win the Oscar in any category but still a POTC fan would be satisfied and would want the next one to be even better.

Title: Minions
Rating: 6/10
Directors: Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda

Brought to you by the same studio that made the unforgettable animated movie series Despicable me.
Minions is a simple yet hilarious story of the single celled organisms that evolved into the inept lackeys of the greatest villain of history.
From the evil T-Rex to Emperor Napoleon these minions find themselves struggling to find the biggest baddest villain of all time. Cast out and defeated these minions sink into boredom because they have no purpose left until three minions Kevin, Bob and Stuart venture out to find  a master to serve.
One of the most entertaining movies you will ever see, While it does lack the special something needed to make it more interesting. The creators of this movie failed to realise that a standalone minions movie would not do well as good things should be taken in small doses and a standalone minions movie would become overbearing and dry.
Perhaps the best thing about this movie is that it takes place during the 60's and makes many references to popular stuff like The Beatles. Another good thing is that Minions does not shy away from being adult even though it might feel like a kids movie at times.
But still even with all its flaws it makes for good time-passing material and remains one of the funniest movies I have ever watched.

Fifty Shades of Grey - Movie 2015

Fifty Shades of Grey
By Sam Taylor-Johnson
5/10

Based on the Novel by E.L. James Fifty Shades of Grey is a erotic romantic drama film. The Story is based on the life of a university student Anastasia "Ana" Steele (Dakota Johnson) who lives with her friend Kate Kavanagh (Eloise Mumford). Kate, one day becomes very ill and is unable to interview a 27 year old billionare entrepreneur Christain Grey (Jamie Dornan), Ana then offers to take Kate's place and goes to Seattle to interview Christian. Ana nervous through the whole way falls on the door as soon as Christain is about to open it, the rest of the interview goes really awkward but they both start to find something unusual in each other. Christian then visits Ana at the hardware store she works and agrees to a photoshoot for the college magazine. Ana and Christian continue to see each other and shortly get indulged in a relationship but Christian insists that Ana sign a non-disclosure agreement. Ana at first sees the light and gentle side of Christian but then discovers his dark side as Grey is tormented by inner demons and hides his evil nature from the world.
The Movie in general was very average and the relationship of Ana and Christian was poorly imitated.
Dakota and Jamie played the characters well but slacked most of the times during the movie.
The Director has certainly done a poor job as the whole story was not very well portrayed.
My favorite part of the movie is when Jamie gives Ana a hard kiss in the elevator.

FORREST GUMP
Rating: 9.5/10
Notable Actors: Tom Hanks and Robin Wright
Director: Robert Zemeckis

6 OSCARS (Phew!). Forrest Gump is like the best emotional/comedy film around here. The masterpiece is truly one of its kind and the movie is Jack Of All Trades without a doubt.

Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) is a stupid fellow who is unable to cope with the world. He had lost his father, his mother was the only support and inspiration in his dull life. Though the protagonist is a little backward boy but that's his strength cuz "Stupid is as a Stupid Does".
In his young life, unsocial and friendless Gump meets Jenny (Robin Wright). The crippled boy has 'leg braces' and is bullied, that's about the time he discovers that he has a certain talent. A talent to RUN, whenever he is in danger or doesn't know what to do, he starts to run and to everybody's astonishment the stupid guy is fast (I mean Really Really Fast).
The adventures of Forrest Gump are the part that everybody wants because he achieves so much even due to the criticism of many for his lack of intelligence.

The Movie effectively makes one stare in awe and forces one to wonder whether they themselves have really led a life so simple rightly. Forrest Gump is a pure classic and revamped the class of comedy. Dedication, Obsession and Simplicity are the few messages the film conveys to the audience, even the most dull and stupid can attain great heights if he/she is focused is the lesson one must learn. That said, Acting was superb (Everybody and especially Tom Hanks were awesome in their respective roles), dialogues were beautiful and Script was beautiful as well. These kinds of movies are needed to cushion ones fall in life and to motivate to push further until one doesn't become PHENOMENAL.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
AT WORLD'S END

Pirates of the Caribbean islands are really something, ain't they? They just keep surprising you and what is the most interesting thing about them is that they ain't no repetitive dump. It keeps on exhilarating you to your wits, after all, the Oscars are no joke are they?.

Captain Barbosa, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swan and the other crew of the Black Pearl go on a journey to save the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones's Locker. This leads them to Singapore to Captain Sao Seng who has the navigational charts to Davy Jones's Locker.
What really is happening in the plot one might say!. Cutler Becket wants to control the seas and is executing the ones related or associated with piracy. Davy Jones has been ordered by Cutler to destroy all the pirate ships, hence aiding the latter in his pursuit. But what Cutler fails to perceive is the Jack Sparrow effect that won't let him achieve his goals even after the treachery and betrayal Jack Sparrow has faced.

The Movie was again a good one though it wasn't exactly rewarded by Oscar & Co. Again, the cinematography and visual effects were beautifully up to the mark (One reason I follow the series). Acting was a great job indeed and script was handled just rightly. The whole team has to be credited for their effort and it should be watched at least once.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
DEAD MAN'S CHEST
Rating: 8/10
Director: Gore Verbinski

The 2nd in row of the Action/Adventure series was very well received indeed because of the great work done by the first one. The Movie boxed $1 billion (that's right folks) and received one oscar in visual effects.

Captain Norrington is accused of letting 'The Jack Sparrow' escape execution. Jack Sparrow is on the Black Pearl where he meets the father of Will Turner, Mr. (Bootstrap) Bill Turner. The latter tells the details to the former on how he was trapped on this ship and in turn Jack Sparrow tells him about Will.
The movie revolves around Davy Jones and his heart. Davy Jones's heart is in a box on an island and it is no wonder that Mr.Jones want its possession back. Though here lies the interesting part, everybody wants to retrieve his heart for their own purposes and here is when Jack Sparrow as stubborn as he is competes with Davy (ehm Mr. Norrington and Mr.Will are also favourites) to get his heart (mind boggling ain't it).

The movie's plot is not a very strong one I admit but the other features compensate for the loss. Cinematography and visual effects were extraordinary. The movie is a marvel of 21st century as far as effects and computer graphics are concerned. The story has its weaknesses but the comedy and action is what intrigued me most about this film and I recommend everybody to give it a chance.

This was the first musical movie I had ever had the pleasure of experiencing and I must say it didn’t fail to impress. Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman had a very strong chemistry when playing their respective character. Their characters have a very classic Sherlock-Moriarty relationship, which really helps bring out the serious and dark brooding side of the movie. That along with the professional acting of Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter in a minor role really brings diversity in this movie and helps brighten it. Filled to the brim with some dark comedy moments especially in the scenes dominated by Sacha and Helena. Not just a story of love, Les Misérables also tells the story of justice as an outnumbered band of rebels prepare to hold out against tyranny and how the story of Jean and those rebels is connected.
Foe those of you who are looking for something new and different nothing holds an edge like Les Misérables.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - Animated Series 2005-2008

Title: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Rating: 9/10
No.of Seasons: 3
Status: Complete

The predecessor to a train wreck of a movie. Avatar is the animated series which led to M.Night Shaymalan making a live action adaptation of it and hereby directing the worst movie in the history of cinema. As bad as the movie was, This animated series is probably one of the best ever.
Set in a fictional world, Where some people have the ability to control or "Bend" any of the four elements. Which are Water, Earth, Fire and Air, Such people are called "Benders". Once in a generation a person is born who has the ability to control all of the four elements, That person is called the Avatar. It is the Avatar's duty to maintain peace and order in the world.
Siblings, Katara and Sokka discover a frozen boy in an iceberg named Aang, Who turns out to be the Avatar who vanished a hundred year's ago. As Aang is the Avatar it is his duty to master all four elements and stop the Fire Nation from taking over the world. Hot on Aang's trail is Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation and his uncle Iroh. Zuko was banished by his father and the only way he can return home is if he captures the Avatar. As Aang sets out with Katara and Sokka to master all four elements, He is pursued by Zuko across the globe as well as many others too.
Many people might expect an Animated Series to be a bit puerile but Avatar: The Last Airbender is considered to be the "Anime of the West" and it is widely watched by adults.
Filled to the brim with light hearted moments and comedy that will make you laugh till your stomach hurts.
If you dont love this smile, You have no soul.
Perhaps the best thing about Avatar is that it contains deep messages about life in many episodes. Also some episodes like "The Tales of Ba Sing Se" will make you cry like the floodgates have been opened. Avatar also gives the message that bad people are often capable of change and that light is often found in the darkest of places.
I would definitely reccomend watching Avatar with the exception of the movie.

Silence Of The Lambs - Movie 1991

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
Ratings:8.8/10
Directors: Jonathan Demme

The Bone Chilling and 5 oscar recipient is the absolute definition of a psychopath. The Movie is surely the art of brilliance, realism and most of all psychologically painful. As one tries to identify the category for the movie, he would probably be confused where to sort this movie as it was the the part of horror (mainly the psychological horror) that really would make one wonder.

A Psychopath nicknamed Buffalo Bill is murdering girls and that's not all, He skins them. He does this in various parts of USA due to which FBI is unable to find a lead in this case. There is one breakthrough though in this mind boggling case, a prisoner who goes by the name of Dr. Hannibal Lecter seems to know something but won't tell it to anybody. Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a brilliant man but unfortunately a psychopath and is interviewed by a trainee in FBI named Clarice. Though there was little hope but the doctor agrees to help if Clarice answers his questions about her past (weird right?). The conversation is the game which Dr. Hannibal intends to play with her, as he puts it as Quid Pro Quo.

The Movie is an enthralling investigation which is acted out with nearly Perfection . Anthony Hopkins has absolutely outplayed the demands the role had and Jodie Fosters courageous role was nicely done as well. And Ted Levine (How can I forget Buffalo Bill) was the creepiest part but was awesomely done because nobody can understand what he had to go through to get this right. Considering the year 1991, the graphic scenes were stunningly handled and the significance of every role was displayed outright. Movie is a must watch for strong heart people because the chills will start to produce after the introduction of

Catch Me If You Can - Movie 2002

Title: Catch Me If You Can
Rating: 8.5/10
Director: Steven Spielberg

Based on a true story, Catch Me If You Can tells the story of Frank Abagnale (Leonardo DiCaprio), A teenage boy with dreams of escaping poverty. When his parents get divorced Frank runs away from home, With a knack for impersonating and conning , Frank starts numerous scams including forging checks and succeeds in stealing nearly 2.8 Million Dollars. His high profile leads to Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks), An FBI agent who starts tracking Frank to put an end to his schemes.
A classic cat and mouse movie, Catch Me If You Can contains numerous light hearted moments and slice of life comedy. Perhaps the most satisfying thing about this movie is the smooth way Frank cons people and gets away with it.
Steven Spielberg who has a reputation for directing the best movies ever made, Lives up to that standard and convinces us of the fact that this might be his best work, Until his other films come out of course.
The complicated relationship between Frank and Carl is really enjoyable, Along with the professional acting done by the two legends respectively. Carl is shown as the only one who can truly understand Frank making him Frank's only friend, As shown in the movie where Frank always calls Carl on Christmas and talks to him, Frank also makes fools out of numerous FBI agents including Carl on multiple occasions, Always staying one step ahead of them.
This movie never fails to impress me and I definitely recommend watching it.

Pirates Of The Caribbean - Movie 2003

PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN
THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL
Rating: 8.5/10
Notable Actors: Johny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley
Director: Gore Verbinski

The Famous Captain Jack Sparrow's 'Pirates of Caribbean' was nominated for 5 oscars. The 2003 sensation is an action/adventure film with a touch of Romance that really occupies one's sight and mind for some good 2 hours.

Will Turner ended up on Port Royal in Jamaica when he was a young kid. He had a medallion which was taken by Elizabeth Swan, the daughter of the governor.
8 years Later...Captain Jack Sparrow comes up the Port to commander a ship but due to some "unfortunate" events he is caught and imprisoned. Then the Ship 'The Black Pearl' invades the port in search of the medallion. The undead (amusing term) pirates kidnap Elizabeth Swan and meanwhile nobody really knows what is happening.
Captain Jack Sparrow recognizes Will Turner and teams up with him to save Elizabeth and conquer the famous Black Pearl.

The tale is indeed entertaining from every aspect. Action and even the serious romance can get hilarious when Jack Sparrow is fitted in the scene. The roles were defined with precision and all the actors led their role spot on. Cinematography was good as well and screenplay was superb (why wouldn't it be when the screen story was accurately portraying the picture). Special Effects were the heights of realism and are the best part in this movie because no one like undead pirates or the ship to be looking like a dummy. Well Folks, watch this movie and

Written by Sir William Golding, Who was also awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. Lord of The Flies defined the structure and set the standard for future books of Young Adult Fiction.
A plane that is carrying teenage boys who have been evacuated from a war zone crashes in an island in the Pacific Ocean. The receiver of many rare awards, Lord of The Flies is not just a book for entertainment. The lesson it teaches goes far deep into your mind. It teaches the consequences of the absence of order and the importance of law in each and every ones life. With no law there is no order, With no order there is chaos and where there is chaos there is death. This sentence summarizes what this book contains.
Although this book was not very well recieved, In later years it became the number 1 bestseller in many countries. Due to its volatile and gruesome nature this book is not classified as suitable for children and is prohibited to be taught in school, This book is a must read for fans of classical fiction and Specualtive Fiction.

Escape Plan - Movie 2013

ESCAPE PLAN
Rating: 7.5/10
Notable Actors: Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger
Director: Mikel Hafstrom

The supreme hits of the Hollywood industry Arnold Schwarze'nigger' (see what I did there) and Sylvester 'Stalin' (and here) weren't able to pull this one off as much as one would have guessed and expected.

Ray Breslin (Sylvester) is the hardcore prison breaker who can't be confined and will exploit a single flaw in the whole system to break through. But his toughest challenge is not an easy one because the tech-facility has the breakthrough to build a flawless project for inmates like him. Luck has it as Emil Rottmayer (Arnold) is an inmate as well. They both partner up for the perfect plan except the interference of the warden, Hobbes has something to offer to deteriorate their minimal chances of escape. The rest of the story follows through, the plan of the genius Ray unfolds even though the hindrances and hurdles are way too much to bear.

The Story lacks a major motive or one can describe it by "the core" as there is no real complexities going behind this massive jailbreak in the History. Otherwise the roles were fantastic and the acting was spectacular. As always if it weren't for the two main male protagonists then the movie won't have been worth a single second. Though it is an enthralling adventure of Ray Breslin but if the plot had a little more depth then it would be a 9. But to say the least, fans of both of em (Sylvester and Arnold) and of action/thrillers need to watch this blood rushing strive of two great men.

A Thousand Splendid Suns - Novel 2007

A Thousand Splendid Suns
By Khaled Hosseini
3.9/5

Written by the author of the bestselling book : The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns is the story of two women's desperate struggle against life. The book basically opens with the story of a girl named, Mariam, who lives in a kolba in the outskirts of Herat. Mariam lives with her mother and she is the bastard of wealthy businessman Jalil, he visits her every week and loves her very much. Mariam is then married off to a shoemaker, Rasheed, from Kabul who is 30 years older than her, shortly after her 15th birthday under unfortunate circumstances.
Mariam suddenly entering a completely different phase in life is overwhelmed and looks ahead living life with her husband but soon Rasheed portrays his true self and makes her life a living hell.
The Book's second part consists of the story of a girl named Laila in Kabul. Laila is a normal school going girl and spends the majority of her time spending with her best friend Tariq, at first their relationship is just running and and playing but soon turns into something serious with their growing ages.
An extremely well crafted book that will move you to the very core and possess you.
Another classic written by Hosseini that is certainly his best of works portraying the main role of Taliban in the destruction of Afghanistan.
Mariam and Laila's struggle through life will keep you emotionally intrigued and literally bring you on the verge of tears.
The only flaw with the book is that the summary and the epilogue in the book both highlight Taliban's role but in the book the Taliban had very short role and that too in the near end whereas the best part of the book was centered on Mariam and Laila's life in home, nonetheless a very very good book.
My favorite part of the book is when Laila decides to name the baby girl Mariam.

Dragon Blade - Movie 2015

Title: Dragon Blade
Rating: 6.5/10
Director: Daniel Lee

Dragon Blade is a Chinese historical movie Starring Huo An (Jackie Chan), A warrior who is part of the Silk road peacekeeping force, Lucius (John Cusack) a Roman general who is being hunted by Tiberius (Adrien Brody) Consul of the Roman Empire. Tiberius had tried to kill his little brother Publius but Lucius interferes and saves him and flees to the silk road. Taking refuge with his army at the Wild Geese Gate which is a ruined fortress. He and Huo An combine forces and restore the fortress to its former glory, Meanwhile Tiberius comes looking for them.
This film looks extremely promising but the mediocre acting done by John Cusack and Adrien Brody tones it down, However the superb acting done by Jackie Chan is the saving grace of this movie. As expected by any Chinese movie, This movie has some pretty intense and expertly choreographed action scenes, From battles to chases this movie lives up to the expectations of an action film.
However the movie is not very well balanced in terms of its plot. It has an extremely silly plot and an even sillier antagonist who fails to capture the essence of playing the bad guy. One of the good things about this movie is that the ending is simply one of the best and it does not come without a heavy sacrifice.
Perhaps a very underrated movie due to abysmal marketing Dragon Blade is not that bad if one simply ignores the bad acting and abysmal dubbing due to the movie being in Chinese.
Perhaps not historically accurate but Dragon Blade is really entertaining when combined with Jackie Chan's humorous acting.

Inside Out - Movie 2015

INSIDE OUT
Rating: 8.5/10
Director: Pete Doctor and Ronnie Del Carmon

Inside Out is a beautifully elaborated movie on how a mind of a person works through depicting emotions from characters. The characters are general and there duty to keep the object (a human actually!) moving is hilarious.

Riley is a young girl who is of mid western origin (USA) moves to San Francisco. She had to leave her friends, hockey team and different yet wonderful memories for the sake of her parents. This is the outside world but what is the mess going on inside is something her emotions have to deal with. Joy is the leader of emotions and is responsible for keeping Riley Joyful even in tough times. Then others such as Anger, Disgust and Safety are general emotions that have to keep Riley operating like a human are of essence (the point on which the storyline stresses on). Most importantly the emotion, Sadness is the one whom everyone wants to distant themselves from as it can make Riley sad and regretful. Then the move to San Francisco disrupts the psychological system as expectations are not met and Joy accompanied by Sadness take on a journey in depths of Riley's emotions due to mishandling of a 'certain' situation.

Inside Out has noted accurately that each and every emotion is necessary for proper human function. Even Sadness is important for our daily lives or we won't be able to live a balanced and happy life. The Animation is good indeed and the voice actors have done a superb job to enhance the point of emotions for audience.

Donnie Darko - Movie 2001

Title: Donnie Darko
Rating: 9/10
Director: Richard Kelly

Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) a high school student is led out of his room by a mysterious figure, Dressed in a rabbit costume, Who tells him that the world will end in exactly 28 days, 6 hours and 42 minutes. Moments later a jet engine comes crashing down on the exact same place Donnie was sleeping. Delusional as ever Donnie starts investigating who that person who saved his life was and what He meant.
A movie so mind boggling, So complicated that its audience were baffled as to what they had just watched. This movie has given rise to many websites which have the sole purpose of explaining this Movie.
In an otherwise dark and delusional film, The acting of Jake Gyllenhaal is truly overwhelming as he plays a character as complicated as the movie itself. Some people might make the mistake of interpreting this movie as a horror film, But I assure you that it is not.
A film that will make Inception look like a children's book. Due to its complicated nature this movie was unsuccessful upon its release because most of the audiences did not understand it, Resulting in it being one of the most underrated movie of all time.
I strongly urge you not to watch this movie before bed because its complexity will keep you awake all night as it did me,

Frozen - Movie 2013

Image result for frozenFROZEN
Rating: 9/10
Notable Actors: Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell
Director: Chris Buck

Disney is yet 'again' successful to surprise us with yet 'another' animated classic with the Brand Label of Frozen. The 2013 comedy/fantasy is the fabulous oscar winning animated movie that led to the enjoyment for all age groups.

The Plot is focused around Elsa (Idina Menzel) who has magical powers but is forced to hide it for the namesake of the royal family. But soon she loses control over her powers in a ceremony to celebrate the kingdom of Andrelle. As everybody is astonished, she freaks and her powers overwhelm the whole kingdom. This results into a winter for the first time of its kind for the people of Andrelle and Elsa runs off from everybody to take refuge in the mountains. Anna (Kristen Bell) goes to bring her back.
The story basically starts when Anna embarks on her journey  and then she meets various creatures from snowman to animals to humans (A snow monster as well which wasn't a very pleasant meeting).
The Disney Animation is at its best and the best of em all are the songs of the Movie. Every single song is perfectly suited and the oscar winning song "Let it go" was truly something special for Animated movies fans. The story may not be very complex but the simplicity is magnificent as the production seemed like true artwork of the Disney Studios. So Kudos to the Movie and a must watch for everybody especially children.

The Eagle - Movie 2011

Title: The Eagle
Rating: 7.5/10
Director: Kevin Macdonald

Set in the year 140 AD, Marcus Flavius Aquilla (Channing Tatum) a Roman soldier is branded with disgrace because his father led the ninth legion on an expedition into northern Britain which ended in all his soldiers dying or fleeing and the legion's eagle getting captured, Which is a standard of every Roman legion and should normally have been defended to the last man.
Burdened with the shame on his family name Marcus sets out on a quest to recover the eagle and restore his family's honour helped by none other than, Esca ( Jamie Bell), A slave and a native Breton with uncertain loyalties.
This movie has been the subject of trivialisation, Though not one of the best, The Eagle certainly offers the best blend of fighting which is the cornerstone of any medieval themed movie or show. Even though the acting by Channing Tatum was criticised by critics for being effortless. You might think different Channing Tatum is able to completely capture the essence of his character.
The Movie has a very dark and foreboding environment that really depresses you and leaves you thinking as if all the light has been sucked from this world.
Perhaps what really brings this movie down is the fact that it is short and the acting by Jamie is abysmal at best.
One of the best moments which truly capture the true image of Roman soldiers and uplifts this movie is the battle scene at the start in which the Roman soldiers get jittery and then form Testudo.
A must watch for those who are fans of medieval action movies.

A Beautiful Mind - Movie 2001

Image resultA Beautiful Mind
Rating: 9/10
Notable Actors: Russell Crowe, Ed Harris and Jennifer Connelly
Director: Ron Howard

The Romantic/Drama of 2001 has really depicted a tale of Love through an autobiography of John Nash who wasn't only a great Mathematician but a Noble Prize winner as well.

John Nash (Russell Crowe) is a brilliant Mathematician who is pursuing his PhD from Princeton University and doesn't seem to like to attend his classes. He meets Charles as his dorm roommate (or does he really?). He is consumed in his deep thought to develop a theory which he is unable to express and unfortunately due to which he couldn't socialize. This is when he meets the love of his life due to some humorous events. After some time, due to his expertise in Maths he is hired for intelligence job (or is he really?). The journey continues until he is finally considered for Nobel Prize.

A Beautiful Mind is an emotional turn of events that one might find heart aching. The story is depicted from a real biography and really makes em wonder on how John Nash survived. The Movie is well done and the Character of Alicia Nash (Jennifer Connelly) is top of it all indeed. The Real life and the Movie is one heck of saddening narrative. A Film deserved to be watched!

The Last Airbender - Movie 2010

Title: The Last Airbender
Rating: 3/10
Director: M. Night Shyamalan

Probably the worst movie I have ever seen in the 17 years that I have lived. A movie which completely ruined the franchise and disappointed fans to a huge extent.
Siblings Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (Jackson Rathbone) discover a boy frozen in ice, Aang (Noah Ringer) who is the Avatar and the last airbender. Intent on finding the avatar is Prince Zuko (Dev Patel), Who along with his uncle Iroh (Shaun Toub) has spent the last many years in exile. Originally predicted to be a blockbuster, This movie is now ranked as one of the worst films ever made.
This movie further goes to prove that it is impossible to adapt an animated series to a motion picture and do justice to the extremely high expectations the fans have.
One of the reasons this film failed so horribly was because the special effects were the worst, A five year old kid couldn't have done it any better.
REALLY?
Directed by Shyamalan who is not all to blame for the  failure of this movie because He was plagued with problems and biasness while working on this movie. Another reason this movie failed was because the studio hired only Caucasian people to play the good guys and hired Asian or African people to play the bad, Due to this it was boycotted by the Masses. The fight sequences are just a mixture of martial arts and karate with no real bending to entertain us. This movie does not keep true with the epic and spell bounding lore and story of the animated series.
For those who have yet to watch this eyesore of a movie, I envy you. Save yourselves and don't watch this movie or you will have the uncontrollable feeling to gouge your own eyes out. Instead watch the animated series of the same name.
